Block-In Drawing Method Part II

I wrote an article about block-in. I think it was a little difficult to understand. This time I tried to demonstrate a simple motif with charcoal.

To accurately take the shape of a thing, it is necessary to improve the sense of inclination. There is a method to measure the length in order to take the shape, but it is almost useless if the size is smaller than 4 (38 x 54). I don't think it's easy to measure the difference of just a few centimeters.

Therefore, it is recommended to use the block-in method that takes the main shape of the tilt.

1. Take a rough shape in terms of outside

Measure the slope at the outermost point and hit a point. First of all, I think the ankle and pedestal corners will be the standard.

After that, hit the dots at the change of the big shape and tie it with a long straight line.

This image is hard to understand, but my drawing is almost only a point.

* When using charcoal in Japan, it seems to teach that "I'll take shape while putting the tone on!" I was taught in Spain, "Don't smudge paper white!" From my experience, it is better to keep the paper clean, so I try to keep it clean. As you get used to it, you can see through the lines just by hitting the dots.

2-1. Change the direction of the straight line at the further change of shape

The long outline drawn with 1 is subdivided. Don't overlook the seemingly single lines because they change direction slightly.

2-2. Lightly enter the lines that are conscious of the light and dark borders and the inner surface

It is important to capture round objects as surfaces. By taking it as a surface.

It makes it easy to grasp delicate tone changes. Toe when the orientation of the surface changes.

I think you should smooth out the joints. Light and dark borders are outlined.

3. Add tone

Let's start toning once the shape is taken. When adding a tone to the background.

It is basically from the contour line. Please think that 70% of the shape was taken up to 3. Make finer adjustments to the shape while adding tones to achieve a shape of 100%. If the light and dark are captured well, the motif will appear larger than when the outline is taken. The white ones tend to look thicker, so continue to correct the shape. Since block-in concentrates on the slope, it takes shape with a straight line, but in this section, the straight line is turned into a curve. The process after this is the volume expression and drawing of the bright part.
