How to draw a tree trunk

Draw a tree that anyone can easily look like (2)

Once you have a leaf that is the most visible part of the tree, the next is the trunk! The trunk is not as bad as the leaves, but it's hard to paint, but if you think about how to put shadows, you might feel a little easier.

Understand the structure of the trunk

Even if you draw a trunk, it doesn't look like it! There is no three-dimensional effect! Many people misunderstand that the trunk is almost straight. The position with the branches is also important. If you do it properly on the side, you won't have a solid feeling for a lifetime.

Also, understand the structure of the trunk before shading. The tree trunk is actually twisted. It may be easy to understand by observing the actual trunk of the tree.

Both of these trees have the same outline, but there is a difference in whether the outline is split vertically or twisted. The right side has a three-dimensional feel and is like a tree. Since the three-dimensional effect is the life of the trunk, it is absolutely impossible to create a three-dimensional effect when applied in such a way that it is divided vertically. It is a point that should be applied with care when applying colors.

Draw the shadow of the trunk

The most important thing to keep in mind when drawing shades by coloring the trunk is to keep in mind that clear shadows are not possible. In particular, it's only necessary to shade half of it.

The three-dimensionality of the trunk can actually be drawn as easily as it can be expressed even through the sunbeams. So you don't have to bother with the shadows.

However, if you are looking up from the side of an illustration looking up at a tree, you need to add some shadow to the trunk.

First, determine the approximate position of the shadow. The light of the trunk is not clearly divided, and the light is shining on the shadowed part. First, divide the trunk into two shadows and highlights, and draw them so that they protrude slightly from there.

The one that protrudes unexpectedly looks beautiful.

Since this is not enough, I will make a part that is exposed to light in the shadow, or I will remove the shadow and erase it with a rubber. It may be better not to clean it too much because it will give you a random feeling.

Basically, when putting shadows on natural objects, it is best to place a large shadow color and then scrape it off with a soft eraser. So you don't have to worry about protruding a little. Rather, the person who did it as a result may look beautiful as a result.

Draw highlight part of trunk

In the above, I decided the shadow part and the highlight part, but I will paint it because the highlight part is not painted. The highlight layer can be the same layer as the shadow. Make a color close to white and put it thinly on the part that is exposed to light.

If it becomes too conspicuous and unnatural, take the color of the trunk close to the light with a dropper and apply it from the highlight. It is a common method even with thick coating. If you do this, the colors will blend nicely.

How to draw sunbeams

Sunlight is a very useful leaf shadow that gives a three-dimensional appearance to the trunk of a tree even in monochrome, but it looks strange if drawn properly.

The sunbeams are basically expressed as a series of circles. If you just draw a circle, you get a flat tick.

Since the trunk is cylindrical, we will consider how it will deform when a circular light hits the cylinder. Then, you will see that it is an ellipse that is crushed vertically with respect to the projected surface. It is easy to understand if you look at the simplified diagram.

It will be easy to understand if you apply it to the trunk.
